Desire precedes all actions and therefore, all creation. Desire-action-creation is the sequence of expression of power.
When desire is shamed which, for women, it often is, innate creativity is curtailed. Families, communities and the wider world can lose out. And, a woman’s authentic expression of power can be distorted into frustration, bitterness, bitchiness, depression etc.
For centuries, many women have been discouraged from ‘shining too brightly’. And they’ve been encouraged to put personal desires and needs below those they support and care for.
If that happened to you, you may have received messages, such as: ‘Don’t get too big for your boots.’ ‘You aren’t in that league.’ ‘It costs too much.’ ‘It’s not realistic.’ ‘It’s time to get a proper job.’ ‘It’s time to settle down and be sensible.’ ‘You want too much.’ Or, you may have been encouraged to modify your deepest desires by this sort of praise: ‘You are easy to be with; you don’t ask for much.’ ‘It’s wonderful that you do so much for others.’ ‘You are such a good team player.’ ‘I know I can always rely on you to help.’ ‘You are so good at sharing.’
If you swallowed these messages and adjusted your actions to suit, you could well have lost touch with who you are. Result? Your connection to your Divine plan and purpose weakens. In that case, you’ve lost connection with the Universal flow of power, which runs through all of us, asking to be expressed in individual ways.
Of course, this only makes sense if you believe, as I do, that each person is an aspect of the Divine whole. If you believe this, it follows that each person’s life has purpose.
As none of us is born with a gift tag stating what that purpose is, it must be communicated to us. I think each person’s purpose is whispered to them over the course of life through their interests, their intuitions, their experiences and their skills.
Desire might be likened to the wind that blows a sailing boat from one destination to another. The skipper of the boat must respond to the wind direction and continue to correct course.
This is why your desires are important. Desires tell you whether you are ‘off course’ or ‘on path’. Connect with your desires to feel the flow of power in your life.
If your desires have been shamed or invalidated, now could be the time for some Feminine Leadership coaching to clarify your direction and set a new course.
